Malaysian envoy pledges support for CSE’s commodity platform plan

Staff Reporter: The Malaysian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Mohd Shuhada Othman visited the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) head office on Sunday and discussed areas of cooperation in developing the country’s maiden commodity market platform.

 

The visit was held at the CSE headquarters in Chattogram, where CSE managing director M Shaifur Rahman Mazumdar briefed the envoy on the bourse’s role, its ongoing activities and its future roadmap, according to a press statement.

 

He said Bangladesh has emerged as an important hub for commodity trading and is one of the leading importers of crude palm oil from Malaysia, adding that CSE plans to launch crude palm oil futures on its proposed commodity platform. The briefing was part of the exchange’s effort to seek Malaysian cooperation in introducing the platform.

 

The Malaysian High Commissioner said his government would extend necessary support to help strengthen Bangladesh’s capital market, particularly the commodity market, and expressed interest in working jointly to promote economic growth, the statement said.


First Secretary of the Malaysian High Commission in Bangladesh Hazwan Bin Hasnol, CSE director Mohammed Akhter Parvez, Major (Retd) Emdadul Islam, CSE chief regulatory officer Mohammed Mahadi Hassan, general manager Mohammed Mazbah Uddin, general manager Mohammad Monirul Haque and other senior officials attended the meeting.
